103 Trophy Chaser

Gulfstream Park (Feb 2): allowance optional claimer, 1m1f, dirt, 4yo+
Trainer: Juan Carlos Avila
Jockey: Paco Lopez
Owner: JCA Racing Stable LLC
Pedigree: 4yo b c Twirling Candy – European Union (Successful Appeal)

Highly rated as a two-year-old in 2018, when he scorched the dirt in his maiden breaker at Gulfstream before being tried in G1 company, Trophy Chaser got back on track with this runaway victory in an optional claimer on his four-year-old debut at the same venue.

After veering sharply to the left (impeding a couple of rivals), the fragile son of Twirling Candy prompted the pace before assuming control on the far turn, his jockey Paco Lopez having more than one exaggerated look between his legs for non-existent rivals.

Trophy Chaser was ridden out to score by 8¼ lengths over the favourite Scars Are Cool for his third win in ten starts and a Beyer of 103.

Leading Kentucky Derby contender Tiz The Law hit the magic three-digit threshold with a 100 for his victory in the Holy Bull. It is the highest figure recorded by a three-year-old so far this year, while the best Beyer of 2020 overall is Mucho Gusto’s 107 from the Pegasus World Cup.
