UAE: Last week’s most notable mover on Thoroughbred Racing Commentary’s exclusive world rankings came on the trainers’ list where there is a new number one in the shape of Charlie Appleby.

The Godolphin trainer’s unstoppable form at the Dubai World Cup Carnival may have resulted in only a 2pt increase to a total of 1,076 rankings points – enough to usurp John Gosden at the top as the latter dropped a point and the pair flip-flopped.

Appleby, who unleashes Ghaiyyath on this week’s Meydan card, enjoyed a treble last week highlighted by Magic Lily’s triumph in the G2 Balanchine. With a dozen winners at this year’s carnival, he is four ahead of his Godolphin colleague Saeed Bin Suroor.

Last week’s biggest points climber was another Dubai-based trainer in Salem Bin Ghadayer, who earned a ten-point increase last week via Capezzano’s wire-to-wire triumph in the G3 Firebreak Stakes at Meydan.

Bin Ghadayer, who will be represented by both Capezzano and Frankie Dettori’s mount Gronkowski in the Saudi Cup, now stands at #122 (from #176) on the trainers’ list with 937 points.
