At least he kept his shirt on … shame about the helmet!
Australia: The image of a tousled beach boy emerging out of the surf could be straight out of a Bond movie or an episode of Baywatch.
And there was a good reason why leading Aussie trainer Ciaron Maher had himself filmed riding on Mordialloc Beach, in Kingston, Victoria, neither shaken nor stirred.
But Maher can’t have reckoned on a Twitter user taking exception to his choice of riding attire and reporting him to Racing Victoria stewards.
Health and safety took over from there as the stewards dealt with the complaint at Caulfield on Saturday, hitting Maher in the pocket.
Their report said: “Trainer Ciaron Maher was fined $300 under the provisions of AR123(1) when he was found not to be wearing a safety vest when mounted on a horse at Mordialloc Beach which had been identified on a Twitter post on 14 February 2020.
“Ciaron Maher was further advised of his obligations in regards to his helmet being properly fastened and for appropriate footwear to be worn.”
