GB: Second favourite Mutamaasik has been scratched from the Unibet Lincoln, the highlight of the beginning of the turf season at Doncaster on Saturday March 28.

The four-year-old son of Dubawi was generally available at around the 10-1 mark behind his Roger Varian-trained stablemate Fifth Position, who is 7-1 market leader with the sponsors.

News of Mutamaasik’s defection was revealed on Varian’s website, where it said: “The four-year-old is sound and healthy and in a good place for the upcoming season, however he has not proven himself to be forward enough in his home work for the Doncaster feature to be on the agenda.

“There are a number of major handicap prizes he is likely to be targeted at in the coming months, including potentially the Victoria Cup over seven furlongs and the Royal Hunt Cup over eight furlongs at Royal Ascot. He remains an exciting prospect for the season ahead.”

Owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, Mutamaasik completed a four-timer on his most recent last term in a 7f handicap at the St Leger.

As well as the favourite Fifth Position, Varian could also be represented in the Lincoln by topweight Sharja Bridge, Game Player and Mutasaamy.
