Churchill Downs (June 12): allowance optional claimer $83,000, 5f, turf, 3yo+
Trainer: Joe Sharp
Jockey: Adam Beschizza
Owner: Brad Grady
Pedigree: 5yo b c City Zip – Yellow Boat (Lemon Drop Kid)
After getting placed in a pair of black type events at Sam Houston and Fair Grounds, Fast Boat struck for the first time dropped into allowance company at Churchill Downs.
Mind you, this wasn’t just any old allowance company, as the runner-up was none other than Bulletin, a fellow son of sire City Zip who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint during his unbeaten two-year-old campaign in 2018.
Admittedly, Bulletin isn’t quite the force of old but there was still much to admire as Fast Boat broke the three-digit Beyer threshold despite getting a bump in a crowded start.
He advanced down the back stretch under British jockey Adam Beschizza before kicking away in the stretch to score by nearly five lengths as he took his career record to a more than respectable seven wins from 18 starts.
