Eyebrows raised as jockey seems to grab rival – and is not disqualified!

USA: A minor race at Parx Racing near Philadelphia on Wednesday [June 24] ended in a bizarre incident in which a jockey appeared to grab a rival inside the final furlong.

The Adam Bowman-ridden Vencil crossed the wire in front in the second race at Parx, a 6f maiden claimer, only to be disqualified and placed fourth after a stewards’ inquiry for drifting out.

However, the promoted winner Asbury Ave was the subject of another ‘foul claim’ (objection) because his rider Hector Cabellero appeared to reach out towards rival jockey Laureano Flores on Afleet Melody, who had finished third.

The race caller coyly suggests the pair are “brushing just a bit”!

According to the Paulick Report, Caballero’s agent Carlos Mercado said the rider told him his whip got tangled up with Flores and his arm movements were on account of his trying to free his whip.
