Get the jockey’s eye view of riding in a Classic beside the chateau
France: The French racing authorities can take credit from a novel idea last weekend in tandem with their twin-Classic Sunday at Chantilly.
Soon after the race, France Galop released ‘jockeycam’ footage of both the Prix du Jockey Club and Prix de Diane Longines. Alexis Badel, who rode Ecrivain, did the honours in the French Derby, with Mickael Barzalona helmeting the camera for the Oaks on Speak Of The Devil.
The resulting footage offers a vividly novel impression of race-riding at one of the world’s most stunning venues as the Classics unfold beside the picture-postcard setting of Les Grandes Ecuries (Great Stables) on the back straight.
Mind you, if France Galop officials are harbouring thoughts of repeating a worthwhile exercise, they’ll probably be hoping the jockeys are not a superstitious bunch.
Ecrivain was only 14th of 16 in the Jockey Club, while Speak Of The Devil finished eighth of 11 in the Diane.
