+13 Oisin Orr
The stylish Oisin Orr continues to win plaudits in Ireland, where a pair of G3 winners helped him to a 13pt boost on the global rankings – enough to push the Donegal jockey right up the jockeys’ list to #163 (from #259).
Champion apprentice in 2017, Orr tied with Andrew Slattery for that title last year, when a burgeoning association with Dermot Weld aided his cause.
Alongside his G3 successes last week on Tarnawa at Cork and Glen Shiel, on whom he was seen to great effect at the Curragh, the 22-year-old was also called up to ride The Lir Jet in the Phoenix Sprint.
Although the British visitor could not match impressive winner Lucky Vega, it is testament to Orr’s reputation that he was asked to Sheikh Fahad’s two-year-old star. His only two previous G1 rides, both since the Irish resumption in June, had been on a pair of rank outsiders.
Other jockeys to make further significant moves last week included Kevin Stott (+7pt, #134 from #169) and Hollie Doyle (+5pt, #248 from #352).
Higher up the scale, Irish title leader Shane Foley (+5pt, #62 from #72) continues his ascent while Flavien Prat’s stakes-race spree at Del Mar is rewarded with a spot in the Top Ten. With a couple of G2 wins via My Girl Red and Bodhicitta, Californian racing’s favourite Frenchman is up to #9 (from #11) with a 4pt boost.
