• The week’s top Beyer speed figure in North America
104 Share The Ride
Monmouth Park (September 12): Mr. Prospector Stakes (Listed) $100,000, 6f, dirt, 3yo+
Trainer: Antonio Arriaga
Jockey: Ferrin Peterson
Owner: Silvino Ramirez
Pedigree: 5yo b/br g Candy Ride – Belle Of The Hall (Graeme Hall)
Biggest Beyer last week came from a fairly unexpected source as five-year-old gelding Share The Ride – claimed just two months ago for $16,000 – hit 104 with an all-the-way success in a Listed race at Monmouth Park.
Ridden aggressively by leading apprentice Ferrin Peterson, whose agent is none other than Julie Krone, Share The Ride broke on top from the widest gate and went all the way to score by 3¾ lengths from the favourite Awesome Anywhere. G1 winner Mind Control, who was conceding weight, took third.
Trainer Antonio Arriaga was winning the third stakes race of his career, and jockey Peterson her first. Share The Ride has now won six of his 16 career starts; he had gone longer on turf since joining Arriaga, a strategy that clearly worked the oracle as he returned to the main track to break through at stakes level.
Saratoga’s summer meet ended on Labor Day [Monday Sept 7] with a notable performance in the G1 Hopeful over 7f as Jackie’s Warrior took his unbeaten record to three with a Beyer figure of 95 – the highest of 2020 so far by a two-year-old.
Having won the Saratoga Special earlier in the meet, the Steve Asmussen-trained son of Maclean’s Music made all on an easy lead and was in complete command in the stretch.
Second place went to the favourite Reinvestment Risk, who recorded a 90 Beyer for the second time in a row.
Jackie’s Warrior is early favourite for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, ahead of Del Mar Futurity winner Dr. Schivel.
