Fundraising efforts for rider with broken hip and shattered pelvis

Canada: An online fundraiser has been set up for jockey Shannon Beauregard, who suffered serious injuries last month in a fall at Century Mile in Edmonton, Alberta.

Quebec-born Beauregard recently rode the 900th winner of her career. She required extensive surgery after breaking her hip and tailbone and shattering her pelvis when she was thrown to the ground and run over by another horse in the race on September 19.

“She is suffering and in excruciating pain,” said Beauregard’s sister Angela. “The road to recovery will be extremely long, difficult and financially taxing.”

According to Edmonton-based CTV News, Beauregard will require extensive rehabilitation and is not expected to walk again for at least three months.
