+12 Chris Parnham
A G3 double at Ascot in Perth last weekend on Truly Great and Celebrity Queen was enough for jockey Chris Parnham (+12pt, #110 from #169) for a double-figure gain to send the all-Australian premiership leader shooting up the global rankings.
Parnham, 23, is the son of trainer Neville Parnham, who has won a record 13 premierships in Western Australia, and brother of jockeys Steven and Brad.
However, both legs of his Saturday double came via the state’s powerhouse partnership pair Grant and Alana Williams (+7pt, #14 from #18), the dominant force in Western Australian racing.
With 60 victories already this season, Parnham is well on the way to eclipsing his previous personal best of 106 in 2017-18. Yet to ride a G1 winner, he leads Sydney-based Tommy Berry by four in the national premiership.
In a relatively quiet week on the international calender, there were actually five G1s on three different continents: two in Brazil and one each in Chile, Japan and New Zealand.
Chief movers came from a Classic card run on heavy ground at Silvestre de Sousa’s old stamping ground, Cidade Jardim in Sao Paulo, where jockeys Alex Mota (+11pt, #238 from #412) and Marcos Ribeiro (+10pt, #149 from #207) enjoyed significant points gains.
Mota took the Derby Paulista on Own Them while Mota partnered In Society to victory in the Grande Premio Diana (Oaks).
