Sidelined for 26 months with two separate tendon injuries, Ride A Comet completed a hat-trick since his return in October with a cosy half-length victory over market rival Casa Creed in the Tropical Turf.

The six-year-old son of Candy Ride, who has won eight of his 13 career starts, looked destined for a decent future on turf when landing the G2 Del Mar Derby in September 2018.

However, he wasn’t seen again until winning an allowance race on Woodbine’s Tapeta surface in October, after which he took the G2 Kennedy Road at the same venue.

As such, Saturday’s G3 contest at Gulfstream marked the first time Ride A Comet had run on grass for 28 months. Sent off a narrow favourite, he made no mistake, saving ground a few lengths off the pace before outfinishing Casa Creed in the drive.

“He’s push-button, he’s all class,” said winning jockey Tyler Gaffalione. “Mark [Casse] was very excited about this race.”

A final time of 1m33.62s was enough for a three-digit figure on the Beyer scale, and also enough for an invitation to the Pegasus World Cup Turf on January 23.
