Japan: Japan’s top female rider Nanako Fujita will join the legendary Yutaka Take as torchbearers ahead of this summer’s delayed Olympics.
Fujita, 23, will carry the Olympic flame during its passage from the cities of Kiyose to Fuchu, running a leg in Fuchu City as it proceeds to Tokyo racecourse on July 14.
“It is a great honour to be able to participate in the torch relay as one of the athletes,” said Fujita, quoted by Sponichi Annex. “I am very excited. I am grateful to be able to participate in the torch relay even in Corona.”
Take, 52, is scheduled to run the relay in Shiga prefecture on May 28. The 19-year-old rider Naomi Hama has already run a stage in Shimanto City, Kochi Prefecture.
