Del Mar (Nov 6): Breeders’ Cup Classic G1 $6m, 1m2f, dirt 3yo+
Trainer: Brad Cox
Jockey: Joel Rosario
Owner: Korea Racing Authority
Pedigree: 5 rg h Paynter – Kosmo’s Buddy (Outflanker)
Time: 1m59.57s

Knicks Go led the way in Beyer terms at the Breeders’ Cup with his brilliant Classic success, which earned a 112 BSF.

His real pace came in the early part of the race via opening sectionals of 23.16s and 45.77s (fractional time for second quarter a hot 22.61s, the only time he dipped beneath 23s). This is where the damage was really done; in retrospect, when he was allowed to go on his own, the race was over in a performance reminiscent of Ghostzapper at Lone Star in 2004.

Knicks Go duly broke the two-minute barrier for his third BSF above the 110 mark for 2021 – indeed, it wasn’t even a personal best, given that the five-year-old hit 113 when dominating inferior rivals in the G3 Cornhusker at Prairie Meadows in July.

Other top Beyers from the Breeders’ Cup included Life Is Good (107) – set to clash with Knicks Go in the Pegasus – plus turf stars Golden Pal (107) and Yibir (105).
